Barakat Brief description of the course: This course is designed to provide study of veterinary systemic pathology for students and it is a continuation of Veterinary General Pathology, involving study of pathogenesis and gross and microscopic characteristics of animal diseases. The topics are: Congenital and developmental anomalies. Pathology of various systems including alimentary, respiratory, urinary, circulatory, lymphatic, reproductive, nervous, musculoskeletal and skin and appendages and metabolic diseases. 2) Course code: vet32 3) Course Goals, Objectives, and Expectations: Goal: The goal of this course is to provide structured in-depth study of systemic pathology in a variety of animal species with an emphasis on pathogenesis of each disease and the resulting lesions. 1

Contact hours: credit hours/week Total hours: 0 Hour Theory + 5 Hour Practical 5/ Course Learning Outcome: At the end of this course the veterinary student is ready to start the masters training, since he / she will have acquired the necessary basic understanding of the principles of pathology, ranging from gross pathology to the submicroscopic and molecular level. He / she will be familiar with the jargon utilized during the masters training. / Student Audients: 3 rd year veterinary medicine. 7/ Evaluation System: Attendance Reports Seminars Tests Lab exam Final exam Examination Methods: Written exam with the possibility for an oral defense. Students are evaluated on the basis of their presence and performance during the practicals. Understanding the theory will be tested in multiple choice questions (MCQs), definitions, match, filling spaces, short notes 3

4 and large open essay questions. The contents are limited to those items that have been presented during the lectures. It is tested whether the students are able to recognize the typical, pathogenetically and pathologically important lesions in the microscopic preparations and organ through questions. The examination result is the sum of the theory 50% practical 20% class work that consists of periodical evaluation i.e. tests, written tasks as assignments / reports and seminars (20%). The student who is not available for this evaluation (for example because of unaccounted absence), can get an insufficient evaluation for this course. 8/ Teaching Methods: The teaching method for the theoretical part is the lecture. All All power point presentations presented during the lectures are permanently available on the server of the PC class.
